I Want to build a robot to pull a pin out of a trebuchet but have little robotics experiance?

i have used lego mindstorms and vex before i want to go BIGGG

Mike1942 is right, you are asking for something not unlike a nuclear bomb to kill a fly. If you must use something exotic, use a timer circuit that is initiated by a flash light. Timer counts down, turns on a motor that pulls a string, or pulls a lever to pull the pin on the trebuchet. What I just described is, in fact, a type of "robot" circuit. Simple some times wins a bigger prize than something sophisticated that doesn't work, and leaves you being laughed at.
